Greetings and welcome to A Healthy Dad!
Most of you reading this are probably subscribed to So Long Fat Ass, which I have shut down and moved over to this new site, taking all my old content with me. I’ve updated all the links and redirected the feeds, so if you were already subscribed to So Long Fat Ass (and assuming you want to remain subscribed to the new site), you don’t have to do a thing.
Why the New Site?
While I really liked my old site, So Long Fat Ass was just a snarky name I came up with on a whim when I decided to start a weight loss blog. At the time, I really had no idea what I was doing, and I wasn’t too sure of how long I was going to stick with this whole blogging thing. 6 months later, I still have no idea what I’m doing, but I do know that I enjoy blogging and intend to stick with it for a while.
Lately, I’ve been feeling the need to have something more than “just” a personal weight loss blog. So Long Fat Ass has been a great home for the last 6 months, but I was beginning to feel a bit constrained. I’ve still got plenty of work left to do before hitting my goal weight, but I was already starting to feel like So Long Fat Ass wouldn’t be as fitting of a place once I wasn’t losing weight anymore. Instead, I wanted something with a bit broader scope.
For a while, I toyed with the idea of writing 2 separate blogs, but the focus I wanted for the 2nd blog wasn’t that far off from what I already had, so that didn’t really make sense to me. In the end, A Healthy Dad was born. While So Long Fat Ass focused on who I was, A Healthy Dad will focus on who I currently am (and who I am still striving to be).
What’s Going to Change?
Overall, the focus of the new blog is going to remain largely the same. My main focus will still be health/fitness, but it won’t be so much specifically a personal weight loss blog anymore.
There are a few specific things that will change, however:
- No more weekly weigh-ins. Yes, I still have weight to lose before reaching my goal, but I don’t feel like I need to post my numbers every single week, especially now that things have slowed down as I near my goal weight. But I’m still going to remain accountable. If I have a bad week on the scale, I’ll write about it. If I have a great week, I’ll write about that too. I’ll still post my weight loss progress, just not every single week anymore. And if you are really curious, you can always check out my Physics Diet profile.
- No more monthly Weekend Warriors Challenge. I’m not going to completely stop doing the Weekend Warriors Challenge, but at least stop doing it every month. It seems like participation kept going down each time, and I think that doing it every month was just a bit too much for some people. Hopefully spreading them out more will help gather more interest.
That’s the plan anyways. Welcome to my new home on the web. Why don’t you take your shoes off and stay awhile?
While the dust is still settling, please let me know if you seeing anything that looks a little off or out of place.

I’m HERE!
Glad to see it was just a revamped blog, and not a throw the towel in type thing.
I think I’m going to keep posting weigh-ins for my accountability but maybe not on a weekly basis. I just didn’t feel like weighing today, and that’s fine for me.
As for the weekend warriors, I think summer is just a more hectic time for people
Maybe spread it out quarterly, like big corporations do haha.

Glad you found it to my new home Jess!
No, I’m definitely not throwing in the towel – I’m just getting started! I’m still planning on being totally accountable, between the blog and Twitter. I just don’t feel the need to do “official” weigh-ins every single week like I’ve been doing. If I have a tough week (or month) and gain a few pounds back, I’ll be totally open and honest about it.
You’re probably right about the summer just being a bad time. It seems like lots of people are posting and commenting less frequently (myself included) because of the busy summer months.
I’m here, too! I love your new design and look forward to lots of good stuff in the future from and for you. Glad you are finding the “right fit” for you blog-wise!
