Weekly weigh-in #24

June 18, 2010

in Weigh-in

This is my first weigh-in following my trip to New Orleans. I didn’t have a weigh-in post last week since I was gone, so this weigh-in actually covers the past 2 weeks. Considering that I was on a sort-of-vacation last week, and not on my absolute best behavior, I’m pretty happy with this weigh-in:

  • Weight: 217.4 lbs
  • Pounds lost this week: 1.5
  • Pounds lost so far: 62.6
  • BMI: 27.91
  • Pounds to goal #1 of “overweight” BMI: 0.0 Goal met 4/9/10!
  • Pounds to goal #2 of “normal” BMI: 23.4

Looking at my Physics Diet chart for the past 2 weeks, you can definitely tell that there have been a lot of little ups and downs (and even some time spent in the red) as my body has recovered from my trip, but overall still a general decline, which is what’s important. I have no doubt I’ll be more back on track next week!

Skinny Raven 1/2 Marathon

I mentioned before that I was considering signing up for the Skinny Raven 1/2 Marathon here on August 15. Well, I haven’t officially signed up for it yet, but I have made the decision that I’m going to do it! My training schedule is definitely going to be a little tight, but I’m confident that I can pull it off.

I’ve found some great tools online for planning your training. I really like the Runner’s World SmartCoach tool, although I’m not going to follow that plan exactly, but mostly use it as a general guide. For now, my plan is to stick to my shorter 3-4 mile runs during the week, and increase my long run on the weekend by 1 mile each week. I think that’s a pretty reasonable plan, and should get my distance built up enough by August 15 that I’ll be able to run the entire 1/2 marathon.

Hiking

This weekend, I’m going on an overnight hike with my dad for father’s day. This will be my first big hike/backpacking trip since losing 60+ pounds, and I am very excited to see what it’s like carrying around this much less weight. I’ve always enjoyed hiking, but it’s been a lot of work for me in the past, since I was never in very good shape. Between the lost weight, and all the exercise and running I’ve been doing, I am expecting this hike to be much easier for me than ones in the past have been.

The hike we’re doing is to Lost Lake down near Seward. It’s a pretty popular hike (they even do a race on this trail), though I’ve never really understood the name, since obviously it’s not lost :) There are supposed to be some pretty spectacular views along this trail, so I am looking forward to getting some nice photos along the way. The fishing at the lake is rumored to be quite good, so we’ll be brining along some fishing gear to give that a go as well.

What about all of you, any big plans for the weekend?

Good numbers and great blog. I just woke up myself from a long denial-sleep around weight and fitness. Accountability through blogging and sharing puts us out there for sure and please allow me to steal some of your ideas to help my fat assault. Have a great Hike this weekend.
I may hit up a outdoor concert tonight and this weekend I am starting the 100 PUSH-UPS ! thanks to seeing your badge!

Awesome loss! And congrats on deciding to do the August half! Don’t forget to build in a taper week every 4 weeks or so while you’re training. It’ll give your body a chance to adjust to, and rest from, your ever-increasing mileage. Have a great weekend!

Way to go! You do much better than I do on my vacations! I will restart my weight posting on Monday. Better get that accountability going again eh!

I can’t wait until I say the words “short run” and “3-4 miles” in the same sentence! I’m so freaking excited for you and the half marathon. You, Seth and Jess are some serious inspirations. I’m proud that you got moving before you hit 40 like *cough* me *cough*.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

And yeah, it’s strange how I label a 5K as “short, speedy, fast, and quick” now. I laugh in my head every single time I say it but I really do enjoy the 5K distance. A lot.

I’m glad you’re focusing on the downward TREND and not the day to day exceptions.

AND WOHOO for the half! Remember to rest and recover, ice if you need to, heat if you need to (they both help in different manners) and definitely use training plans as guides. Get the mileage in and you’ll be fine!

That sounds like a beautiful hike, I hope you had a great time with your dad, that just warms the heart reading about it. Any great photos to share?

Funny yet appropriate name for a marathon. I don’t know anyone who has gone from c25k to half marathon, I admire your ambition, that’s entirely fantastic.

And a vacation with staying the same is awesome but a loss like that is great!

Brandon, I hope you had a great hike this past weekend! And congrats on the loss this week. You continue to inspire me every week.
