I’ll just start off by saying that I ate way too much on Mother’s Day this past weekend. We had everyone over to our house for an outdoor barbecue, and I’ll just say that my wife doesn’t under-do anything
We had tons of great food, and I ate far too much of it – and I’ve been paying for it all week. In fact, I even made my first dip into the red this week as my body was recovering from the weekend debauchery:
It just goes to show, that even with how far I’ve come, I still haven’t completely rid myself of my old eating habits. Luckily, my dip into the red was just a brief flirtation as my body was getting over the weekend. The rest of the week my eating was great (even without counting calories) and I still managed to pull off at least a reasonable loss for the week:
- Weight: 224.7 lbs
- Pounds lost this week: 1.5
- Pounds lost so far: 55.3
- BMI: 28.85
Pounds to goal #1 of “overweight” BMI: 0.0Goal met 4/9/10!- Pounds to goal #2 of “normal” BMI: 30.7
It’s been a very busy week for me, so I’ve fallen behind on my blog comments – both commenting on everyone else’s blogs, and replying to comments on my own. But I just want to give a BIG thank you to everyone who left me comments on my first vlog, and on my first set of progress photos. I was very self-conscious about both of these posts, and very nervous about posting them, but the wonderful comments that people left made me feel much better about the whole thing. Oh, and for those that asked, I’m 6’2″, so that height does stretch out my weight a bit, although I’ve definitely still got more I’d like to lose!
Links of the week
Some more interesting health/fitness articles this week outside my “normal” reading list of blogs:
- How (And When) to Motivate Yourself – An interesting look at how motivation works. The bottom line – getting started is the hardest part. If you can motivate yourself to get up and take those first steps out the door, you’re more likely to go for that run, or whatever the activity might be.
- Carbs against Cardio – More evidence that refined carbohydrates, not fats, threaten the heart.
- Daily Weigh-In May Help Dieters Lose – A study from 2005 found that daily-weighers lost twice the weight of those who only weighed weekly, or even less often.
- Sitting straight bad for backs – It turns out that sitting straight up in a chair is actually worse for your back than the ideal 135° lean back.
The “Bee Thing” in my Kitchen
I got several comments on my progress photos about the “bee thing” in my kitchen, so I thought I’d post a closer photo to clarify: it’s actually a pirate kitchen timer ![]()

Guest Posts
I’m going to be heading to New Orleans for a week for work at the start of June, and I’m hoping to keep things busy here with some guest posts. I’ve already got a few lined up, but I can always use a couple more! Even if I get more than I can use for that week, I’ll just run them later and save me the work of writing a post
Let me know if you’re interested!
C25K Week 4
Week 4 of Couch to 5K has been going really well. The step up to 5 minute running intervals hasn’t been too bad, and my ankles have continued to be pain free.
My first run of the week on Tuesday night was somewhat unique – at least for me. My wife had a bunch of work she needed to get done, so the only way I was going to get my run in was if I brought the kids with me. Luckily, we actually do have a jogging stroller, although this was the first time it was used for that purpose! Trying to run while pushing the stroller was definitely a bit awkward at first, but once I got moving, I actually ended up having a pretty good run.
I’m excited to take on week 5 and its’ infamous 20 minute run!
Everyone have a great weekend

Gotta tell you tho… my definition of great food has changed over the past two years as I try and get healthy… a lot of unprocessessed foods have become great foods in my mind. That being said, I still tend to pig out on home cooked food when I go to family gatherings. I am just glad that we don’t have gatherings every day!!!

You can’t eat carrot sticks and tunafish for the rest of your life and call it healthy living. Actually, you can, but it’s not too realistic. There is FOOD, yummy yummy food in this world. You may be SoLongFatAss, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be SoLongFoodRules once in awhile!! Mmm…BBQ!
Coolest. Timer. Ever. What kind of content are you looking for in your guest posts???
Very true Erin! I’m not too worried about it, as long as I don’t let it become a regular thing.
As far as the guest posts go, I really don’t have anything specific in mind. You could write some about your own journey, struggles with food, or whatever – I’m totally open!
Ok, I’m interested if you want me to do a post!
Of course, I’d love to get one from you!
Ooooh, I wanna do a guest post!!
Can I? Can I?

Yes ma’am, I’d love to get a guest post from you!
First of all I totally would love a guest spot minus the fact that I’m leaving right away for a week and a half my own self. Maybe next time?
Love pirate man, lol, forever to be called the Bee Thing.
How awesome to jog with the jogging stroller. I have heard tell of such creatures but never seen one used for it’s intended purpose. Kudos!

I’d take a guest post from you anytime! Seriously, even if you can’t get one to me in time for my trip, I can just run it later. Always looking for more great writing to help fill in the gaps!
Ok, chalk me up as a gap filler
Give me an idea of what you want and I’ll fire up some brilliance for ya.
I really don’t have anything too specific in mind. You could write something about your own weight loss/fitness journey, running, training for a triathlon… I’m sure whatever you come up with will be great
Oh God that almost makes me sound interesting. And that’s very nice, thank you.
Pirate – That’s so much cooler. You should totally turn him into one of those traveling Gnome things and send him to all your blogging friends for a quick picture – yeah, me first though.
I was sweating chocolate icing on my Monday run after moms day.
