Weekend Warriors Challenge #2: The Results Show

April 5, 2010

in Weekend Warriors Challenge

So how was everyone’s Easter weekend? How did you do with your Weekend Warriors goals? Anyone break down and gorge themselves on chocolate bunnies and jelly beans :)  For the most part, I ate very well this weekend. I did have more than I had hoped to yesterday, but overall not too bad.

As a reminder, here were my goals for the weekend:

  1. NO chocolate this weekend. WIN – I managed to stay clear of the chocolate, although in retrospect, I should have made this goal for no candy, because I did have a brief visit from my old arch-nemesis, the Jelly Belly. Nothing too crazy, but nothing I really needed, either.
  2. Exercise at least 45 minutes on both Saturday and Sunday. WIN – Saturday I did 45 minutes on the elliptical, and Sunday I started the Couch to 5k program. Technically the first exercise is only 31 minutes, but I thought it went very well, and it felt GREAT to get outside and run, so I’m counting that as a success. My only regret was not wearing gloves. I guess I didn’t realize how cold it still is out there, and my hands were freezing by the time I was done!
  3. Weigh no more on Monday morning than I did on Saturday morning. FAIL – I’m definitely up on the scale today. Despite my best intentions, I had a fair amount to eat yesterday. We had three big meals on Easter – breakfast at my parent’s house, lunch at my mother-in-law’s, and everyone came for dinner at our house. I didn’t eat too badly at any one meal, but the three big meals combined just added up to a big day. I actually had a pretty big gain this morning from just yesterday, but I attribute most of that to being “the morning after”. I expect most of that to drop back off tomorrow.

So that’s how my weekend went – 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, right? :)

How was everyone else’s weekend? Did the challenge help with overeating on Easter?

Thanks everyone for participating in the challenge – hopefully we’ll see you all back here again next month for challenge #3!

I got two of three too. My eating was okay but I slipped over my 1500/day calorie limit. I’m starting a C25K this week too! Let’s be awesome together!

That’s great Lauren – I agree, let’s be awesome together with the C25K! :)

The Challenge DEFINITELY helped with the eating. And yeah, 2 out of 3 is awesome, and even number 3 is only temporary. I hope everyone else did great too!

But…I don’t understand why people love Jelly Belly so much. I can’t eat one jellybean at a time, and I don’t want to put alot of thought into it either. If I attempt to scoop up a handful of Jelly Belly I’ve left with a nasty combination of strawberry, coffee, grilled cheese sandwich, lox, sour cream, buttered popcorn, and orange. Granted’ some of those flavors might not acually exist, but you get the point.

Starburst Jellybeans are where its at, my friend. Steve out.

I don’t get the jelly belly thing either, but I’ve never been a jelly bean person at all really. Candy corn ftw!

I don’t have the patience to make their little Jelly Belly “recipes”. I’ll usually have 4-5 at a time, and yeah, maybe sometimes you’ll get a buttered popcorn or peanut butter one mixed in there that tastes kinda weird, but overall – YUM!

And I’m with you 100% on the Starburst jellybeans, those things are freaking amazing! I tried to stay far away from both this year, but I got the bag of Jelly Bellys from my parents.

Erin April 5, 2010 at 10:09 am

A Lox Jelly Belly? Hehe…you know I’d have to try it if they made it…oh, and for the record, the buttered popcorn Jelly Belly’s are NASTY!!! Starburst jellybeans for the win!!!

I didn’t even set any goals :( I did get my running done but I ate a ton of crap yesterday, and Saturday for that matter. But I’m back today.

As long as you’re able to bounce back and get right back into your routine, I think a little splurging on food every now and then is really not that big of a deal. As long as it doesn’t turn into an every weekend kind of deal… :)

I hit 2 of 3 as well I worked out both days and didn’t let the road block of having to drive and wait for my husband to fix his car on Saturday instead I too started the C25K this weekend. (although I don’t know if “felt great” is how I would describe it) Sunday I did the biggest loser cardio level 2

But I ATE and DRANK and I too am up this week and got the goose egg for my weigh in Saturday so hopefully I can make up for all the eating this week and still have a nice loss at the end of the week.

Frank Dobner April 5, 2010 at 9:37 am

It went well because I was aware that I had to tell you all about it. See my results

Nice work Frank! Glad to know thinking of me kept you honest this weekend :)

The morning after…I didn’t even get on the scale this morning because I was too scared!!! I was 2/3 myself – I’ll have the results up this afternoon!

Hey, 2 out of 3 is nothing to be ashamed of! :)

AndrewENZ April 5, 2010 at 10:56 am

I failed miserably with the no chocolate!

Got in my runs and I weighed less so it’s all good.

As I responded to Mac above, I think a little splurging on food every now and then is not really a big deal, as long as you can get right back on track and not let it lead to an all-out binge.

Carla April 5, 2010 at 11:28 am

I was also 2 out of 3. I didn’t touch the chocolate, I stayed in my calorie budget, but when the beer came out on a hot day, I definitely enjoyed a couple of cold ones!!! So I failed on the no alcohol goal.

Brandon, you forgot me; – ( But I did participate and did pretty good, though I did Friday/Saturday, not Saturday/Sunday. I still gained, quite a bit, while enjoying a weekend vacation away. But it was tasty and I enjoyed it all. Back on it today….I’ll see Friday when I weigh in, how much of the gain has staying power. Thanks again for the challenge. It was a lot of fun!

CiCi, I’m so sorry I missed your post. For some reason Blogger must not have posted the trackback, because I never saw it. But I just updated the last post and added you to the list of participants. Thanks for much for being part of the challenge, and for helping to make it a success!

Joe April 5, 2010 at 2:34 pm

Good job -
Don’t worry about the weight. Some guys can fluctuate 5-6 pounds a day.

Really good idea Brandon. There is no way I would have put in the mileage I did this weekend without your challenge. Thanks and please keep these up.

Brandon April 5, 2010 at 4:16 pm

Yeah, I’m not too worried about this mornings weigh-in. I’ve learned there are lots of little ups and downs from doing daily weigh-ins for the last 3 months. As long as I stay on track today (which I have so far), I should be back to normal tomorrow.

I’m glad to hear that the challenge worked well for you, and got you to put in some extra mileage. We’ll definitely be doing the challenge again – first weekend of every month. Looking forward to seeing you again next time!

Joey April 5, 2010 at 4:17 pm

I got 3 out of 4 on my challenge:
