Now that the first Weekend Warriors Challenge has come to a succesful end, it’s time to start looking ahead. I got lots of great feedback on the challenge, and most people seemed to really like it, and felt that it helped motivate them to do better on the weekend and reach their goals.
On top of all this great feedback, I saw a lot of the same question – when’s the next one?
To be completely honest, when I first proposed the challenge, I hadn’t thought much about doing it more than once. It just kind of sounded like a fun thing for everyone to do, and all have a healthy weekend together. But considering that it seems like many people are eager to do this again, I’m completely open to that idea as well.
So the next question, then, is how often to do the challenge? Personally, doing it every week would be overkill. I’m not sure that many people would be up for doing it that often, and at least for myself, it would be a little much. There’s a fair amount of work I have to do with putting all the posts together, tracking the participants, etc., and I’m just not up for doing that every week. That, and if I was going to do that, I might as well change the name of my blog to “The Weekend Warriors”
Currently, what I’m leaning towards doing is having the challenge once a month, on the first weekend of each month. It would be a great way to start off each month on the right foot, and hopefully help set a healthy tone for the rest of the month. I’d probably put out a post the Monday before each challenge, reminding everyone and giving people a place to sign up. Then on the Friday before the challenge I’d put up the list of participants, followed up by the results on Monday, similar to how we did this first time around.
How does that idea sound to everyone? Any other thoughts or suggestions? I’m open to just about anything at this point if someone has a better idea.

As someone who is just starting my journey of better health and blogging about it, I followed the Weekend Warrior Challenge and found a lot inspiration from everyone. I’ve been trying to read a few new blogs from the list each day and I am picking up some great ideas from many folks. I was hoping that another challenge would come about, because I too struggle on weekends and would love to participate.
I like it; let’s do it! And I still plan to make a monochromatic badge to go on my sidebar.

I am totally for the idea of doing it once a month! I like my “cheat” weekends too much to do it EVERY weekend.
If I had some event or something planned I might have to skip the challenge that month (or just set different goals?)…i can make it work. I’m excited b/c this challenge kept me on track more than any weekend ever!

Whenever we do it, I’m on board! Once a month? Every other weekend? Whatever…but an idea popped into my head. Maybe we can rotate hosts? Just go down the list, that way everyone is responsible for pulling their own weight, so to speak. I know many of the Weekend Warriors, but not all! Maybe rotating challenge hosts would give us the opportunity to get to know each other better!

That’s a good idea Erin. I think I’ll host it again here the next time, but after that maybe we’ll give that a try.
I think the first weekend of each month would be great.

I totally love the idea of doing it the first weekend of every month. This totally works for me! Count me in. If it wasn’t for the WWC last weekend, I’d probably be up a pound this week with all those parties I had to attend. As it is, I am already down half a pound for the week instead!

Happy to hear it worked out so well for you!
Yeah, once a month would be fine. I guess the idea is that every weekend is a weekend challenge for us all. So the overall goal is for everyone to get every weekend successful
Here is a counter-proposal. How about if we include a component of the metrics of a “REAL WEEKEND WARRIOR” to show the average of some type of numbers for the last 4 weeks so that the average weekend is a win.
So for instance, I would choose the number of calories as my metric. I would then average these numbers over the last 4 weeks and include that in my weekend numbers along with I accomplished on that weekend as usual.

Something like this could work, though it would somewhat limit the types of goals people could set, since they would have to be something that could be measured very specifically and averaged across the entire month. Something to think about though, thanks for the idea.
I think once a month is great and count me in. I am all over this because it made such a huge difference to me. I am proud to say that early this week I was below the wretched plateau I was facing. I couldn’t get below 278. I was stuck there for about 3 weeks to a month. Today I weighed in at (((((DRUM ROLL))))) 274. I think the challenge was a huge factor in the change. Thank you!!!!!!!

That’s great Lynne, I’m happy to hear that the challenge worked out well for you.
Like the others I’m on board for any time. The extra motivation and challenge goes a long way. Plus it was fun checking in on everyone to see how they did.

Sounds good to me, Brandon! And if you ever need help, I’ll help wherever I can as I know it can become time consuming.
Looking forward to the next one already!

Great, thanks Josie! It shouldn’t be too bad if we’re only doing the challenge once a month, but I’ll keep you in mind
I think once a month is great, either at the beginning to start off with a bang, or at the end to go out with a bang…or something…
If you DID want to make it everyweekend…you could go and create a whole new blog for it (or at least a subdomain: weekendwarriors.solongfatass.com, or something so it doesn’t consume THIS site). If you were to do it that way, you could kind of set it up the way 100pushups site is set up…provide resources, and badges for people to use, and if anyone wants to be on a participant list they could just request to be added. Just a thought.
That’s not a bad idea either Steve. Setting it up as just a recurring thing that people can sign up for might be a good way to go. Though as you said, if I did go that route, I’d have to do a subdomain or something like that to create some separation from the main site. Something to think about at least…
I am down for once a month! or whenever, I think it gives us something to work on.
I’d be down for once a month. As it is, this week and now weekend is looking like full of Fail, but even this reminder might get me off the couch to do something useful for my body.
