When my wife and I got married in 2004, we both went on diets for about 6 months before the wedding to lose some extra weight. While we looked great in the wedding photos, there was one drawback that we hadn’t thought about before – the size of our wedding rings.
At the time of our wedding, I weighed about 220 pounds, which is nearly 50 pounds less than I weigh today, meaning that my fingers were quite a bit thinner back then when we bought our rings.

You can see in the photo above what my wedding ring looks like when I’m wearing it. On the left, you can see how tight it is on my finger. After only a few minutes, it’s left a nice impression on my finger, as you can see on the right.
I often have trouble getting my ring on and off. As a result, I don’t wear it as often as I’d like. My wife keeps telling me that I should just go and get it resized, but that feels like accepting defeat to me. I’m very much dedicated to losing weight, and keeping it off, by living a healthy lifestyle.
Having my wedding ring fit comfortably again will be a sure sign that I’m well on my way to a healthy weight.

I had to have mine resized after I gestured vigorously and my ring went flying!
That’s a pretty funny story Andrew. That’s the only reason I would get my ring resized – to make it smaller!
Don’t resize it – you WILL lose this weight and that ring WILL fit!
But I like Andrew’s as a reason for getting it resized!
Thanks Erin, I don’t plan on getting it sized any bigger. I’m dedicate to losing this extra weight, and among other things, making my wedding ring fit comfortably again.
I also refuse to have my rings made larger. It’s been several years since I’ve been able to wear them, but I’m not giving up yet!
Good for you Carla. Don’t give up, you’ll fit in them once again!
Hey Brandon!
I think keeping your ring the same size is a great idea, and try to wear it all the time. That way, you’ll always have something right in front of you to keep you motivated and on track. Awesome success so far through just three weeks, now keep it up!

Thanks Steve! You’re exactly right, looking down at my ring every day is a great reminder of how far I still need to go. I’m definitely proud of what I’ve done so far, but I’ve gotta keep my eye on the prize!
It was several years before I could wear my wedding rings too. The girls at work actually thought that I didn’t own any wedding rings. The were very surprised when I could wear them again. Now, I am not wearing them because they are too BIG and keep falling off. Hubby was wonderful and bought me a plain gold band that fits to wear for now until I get to my goal weight.
That is quite wonderful of your husband
I will definitely know that “I’ve arrived” when my ring is fitting comfortably again. I won’t be done, but it will be a great sign that I’m headed in the right direction.
That’s a fine goal. Lose the weight. Keep the ring size. Everybody wins.
Yep, that’s the plan anyways
That is a very good reason and like Steve said a great reminder. I found your blog through my friend Tishia Lee’s blog. I just started Weight Watchers so I’m looking for all the inspiration and motivation I can find to help keep me on track. Good luck to you
I’m glad you found my blog Mary, and thanks for the encouragement! I look forward to following your progress as well, good luck to you too!
I agree I think you should keep the ring the same size as it is. When you wear it and it’s tight like that it will keep you motivated because it will be a constant reminder of why this is just one more reason you want to lose this weight!
